Why Is President Obama So ‘Smart’?

I have two competing theories about why people decided, and (seemingly) still continue to believe, that President Barack Obama is some sort of brilliant, ‘Smart’ genius.

1. They want to debase the standards. Let’s face it, if Barack Obama is genuinely, really smart, then so is like 50% of the population. Which would probably make 50% of the population really happy! Essentially this theory says that under certain circumstances, people can have a psychological motivation to scribble out someone’s “73″ and write in “100″ on their final exam, so as to re-center the curve accordingly. This theory has people cheering on Obama’s supposed ‘brilliance’ for essentially the same reason that women cheer on and encourage other women to cut their hair short.

2. Ideological needs and historical forces demand it. Barack Obama is a suave, well-groomed black man who wears a suit well, spouts warmed-over Marxist jibberish dutifully, and became the first black President of the United States. Which is to say: He must be a genius. The march of history demands it. It is unthinkable to even suggest that someone in this position wouldn’t be brilliant; that doesn’t fit the storyline. In the lexicon of TV Tropes, this is more like giving Obama an Informed Ability (‘A character’s skill and abilities are frequently mentioned by the cast, but are nonexistent in practice’) to someone who is a Designated Hero, than it is giving him the Smart Ball (since he never actually does, not even briefly/unexpectedly, demonstrate the Intelligence he supposedly has).

I lean towards #2 but don’t discount #1. What’s your vote?

A little bit of 1, but mostly 2, and that mostly because one of the great unwritten rules of our age is that any black* person in the public eye who isn’t a professional entertainer must be loudly and constantly praised as brilliant and flawless or, at minimum, not have their glaring idiocies noticed. This, and only this, explains why anyone still pretends to listen to the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Whoopi Goldberg**, etc.

*”black” by definition = “left wing,” which is why nobody is forced to notice the actual, significant intellect and accomplishments of people like Clarence Thomas. He’s not “authentically” black, you see.

**An interesting case in herself, as she moved from “crappy actress in lousy movies (and that Star Trek show)” to “pundit” seemingly by force of will. Persist long enough and publicly enough in your political idiocy, it seems, and folks will forget you were ever anything but a “pundit.”

Smart & “Agrees with me” are awfully closely linked in the liberal lexicon. Obama has managed to seem to agree with ALL liberal positions at the same time. Further, he seems to be in the right IQ-bracket for politicians (+1-2 Sigma). I wouldn’t even be surprised to have found him at the top of some of his classes, either at high school or after. This makes him “smart”.

I’ll vote for #1 with a side of Dunning–Kruger effect

  4. David Foster says:

#3…he speaks (at least when using a teleprompter) with the kind of accent, vocabulary, and sentence structure which has long been associated with Eastern elites in “public service.”

Also, he uses references which indicate his deference to academics and others who consider themselves intellectuals.

    • #3 seems like the correct answer.

  5. As painful as it is to pass over an option that aggrandizes my ego via linkage, I have to select option 2. Numinous negro worship is not a phenomenon confined to the White House. See Cambria Will Not Yield for details.

  6. Um… I don’t know about other women, but when I cut my hair short, it’s because I feel like wearing it that way. Not to imitate some mythical herd of women, or to signal my contempt for men and femininity. And yes, it is for convenience — I’m not sure how not wanting to spend hours and hours on my hair (which I never did, even when I wore it very long which was most of my youth) means I’m lazy and a herd creature. Or something. Well anyway, I’m almost fifty, so whatsisname at that website doesn’t have to worry that I’m a young attractive woman making myself ugly and unsexy so as to irritate him.

By the way, is the reason men usually wear their hair short (in our culture) due to their vast reserves of individuality and strength of character? We all know that peer pressure has absolutely no effect on men. They all just tend to dress alike (jeans, t-shirts, man-colors like brown and blue) and wear their hair short because they are completely individualistic alpha males each on their own island of individuality.

Some generalities are sensible. Some are stupid.

    • lol :)

  7. I cut my hair short because it makes hair coloring easier. But that is neither here nor there. In matters of personal fashion as far as I’m concerned my opinion is the only one that counts. To get to the real subject though, Obama is a classic example of the story of the “Emperor’s New Clothes.” The man is nekkid, nekkid, nekkid but the whole world is afraid to admit it, and to tell him he’s naked while they’re at it. All he has to offer is hot air, regurgitated failed Marxist rhetoric, and nothing more. A white guy spouting this crap would be denounced for exactly what it is, but a lot of white people are afraid to denounce Obama and his ideology for fear of being called “racist.” I have no problem with anyone due to their race, but I despise Marxists and socialists regardless of their color, gender, etc. There’s nothing racist about being anti-socialist. Maybe next election there will be a little more common sense and a lot less “white guilt.” It’s racist to vote FOR someone just because they’re black too!
