I saw approximately 7.3 zillion tweets and blog posts complaining about/ridiculing Miley Cyrus’s “twerking” on some fake awards show, so ultimately I bore down and actually tried to watch it. Unless the shocking part was in whatever I fast-forwarded thru, I guess the hype warped my expectations because watching it, I wasn’t sure what the big deal was. Are other’s expectations of these people just still not lowered to mine yet?
Norman Geras, On justifying military intervention in Syria – good thoughts all around that I second.
The media are Suckers of C**k who have a formal (and yet fake) rule against taking a position on the substantive merits of a political debate. So they observe this… by instead attacking Republicans for holding a substantive position, but claiming their objection is made upon procedural grounds.
I’m starting to think that perhaps politics should be defined in terms of hypocrisy/inconsistency. The inconsistency is just so utterly consistent.
When Do We Care If Presidents Break “The Law”? For those keeping score at home – something which really comes out when I discuss immigration/border laws – I fall into his category #3:
3: Government officials are special. Civilians may have no moral obligation to obey the law (see #1), but government officials are empowered by the law, so they are specially obligated to take the bitter with the sweet. The oath of office operates to convert law into a personal promise.
I am deeply in the minority on this, because most people don’t give a rat’s ass about things like the social compact or the oath of office. Particularly Smart People, who all fantasize about rising up to become philosopher-kings themselves, therefore will brook no constraint whatsoever on the behavior of empowered Smart People, finding the idea stupid and offensive.
Macroeconomics: The Illustrated Edition. Dunno how right the econ is but I like the pictures.
Global warming is ‘no longer a planetary emergency’. I guess we fixed it! It totally was a ‘planetary emergency’ at some time in the past and now it’s not. Yay us! So nevermind! I hereby encourage all global warming alarmists to pat themselves on the back for a job well done, and have celebratory parties. (Naturally, I expect them all to also shut their traps from now on. I’ll hold my breath.)
